Sheet Rope regulation

Further to an email sent in November 2010 by Martin Leach, on behalf of BFSLYC and as the UK liaison person with ISSA, Wirral Sand Yacht Club write to state the position for scrutineering of Standarts to alleviate any uncertainty prior to this year's European Championships at Hoylake in Britain:

The scrutineers for the coming Euros event at Hoylake will not pass any pilot/yacht of a Standart with a sheet rope which is less than 10mm in diameter at any point along its length as per the current specification, rule(annex 2E article 4) 'the main sheet shall be 10-12 mm. in diameter'.

As we understand the situation from Martin's previous email several pilots have been know to use sheet ropes which are either 8mm, which is smaller than the specified minimum diameter, or were tapered from 10mm to 6mm which is considerably less than the specified minimum diameter, on safety grounds due to using 40mm pulley blocks.

However in respecting the current FISLY regulations in force any standart which has a sheet rope of less than 10mm diameter, even for part of their length, are not within specification and will therefore not be eligible to sail in any race at the Euros in Hoylake in 2011.

We trust you will advise all potential competitors of this enforcement of the current rules at our coming event.
Kind regards
Julian

new XL body for the Standart

I had the opportunity to test the XL body during the last race. I was extremely satisfied with the new body. It's in fact the same body like were are used to sail with but just in a bigger size. From now on we are able to invite + 95 kilo persons and heavy measured shoesizes into our Standart class.

The ISSA ( International Standart Sandyacht Association) will give green light to have it accepted within the Fisly. The body fits within the actual regulation, we just had to add an annex within the rules. The steering, which is 2 cm higher than we used to have is a brilliant idea of the constructior. We just need to discuss if we can deal with the proposed steering within our class.

So , it looks like the constructor found a excellent compromise between the actual yacht and the future generation of the Standart Yachts.

We invite all competition pilots on the beach of De Panne during the summer vacation to test the yacht. Competition pilots from other classes are also welcome. And even if you not sailing with it just try the body , you will be astonished about the space you have on the inside of the yacht.

We just need to do some more tests during strong wind conditions with + 95 kgs persons to see if the front wheel does not lift from the ground during tacking or when the yacht goes through the gullies. And believe me, I am quite convinced that this body will pass this extra test very easily !More detailed pictures are available on the special link of Walter Carels( do not abuse this pictures).

Belgian Boat Show at Ghent

The Flemish Federation (http://www.lazef.be/) asked to exhibit my yacht during the Boat Show.

And of course we cannot refuse such opportunity.

I had some interesting contacts during my visit at the booth. Morris Adant is e.g. a excellent photographer in the domain of yachting (http://www.morris-adant.com/). I had a constructive chat with him and with some luck, you will be able to see some pics taken by him about landyachting.
I introduced Morris Adant to Walter Carels which was also the same day at Ghent and they have been talking in a enthousiastic way about their mutual interest.
As you probably know, Walter Carels is the best land yacht photographer we know !

We are looking forward for the cooperation of those 2 photographer's thogether.

Some pics of Walter Carels taken during the exhibiton are linked on his site :

Gala West-vlaamse Sport
